♥♥♥♥= four out of five hearts
Eli messed up. Bad. He let everyone he loves down, and now he's back- but not to hurt Mama Potts again, or the rest of the family that he left behind. Not if Violet has anything to say about it, anyway. She claimed Mama Potts, Oliver, and Levi as her own years after Eli left, and no one is going to hurt her found family.
Eli and Violet appear outwardly to be the classic pairing of good girl + prodigal son, but each of them has their secrets, and layers of character depth that are revealed throughout the novel. One thing that made me enjoy them even more as characters was their flaws- both were not without scars, whether self-inflicted or otherwise, and that made them so much more relatable.
Cozy, down-home stories set on the beautiful shores of Prince Edward Island are Liz Johnson's trademark, but I love how her books aren't all fluff and comfort. Her characters and situations are realistic and journeying with them is always a pleasure.
I absolutely adored the previous book in the series, and if you did as well, The Last Way Home is a must-read! It also includes a tantalizing snippet of Levi's story, which I've been anticipating ever since he (very quietly) stepped into the pages of Beyond the Tides.
